PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the time for computing variation of injection amount by stopping the work for computing variation of later injection when variation of the later injection obtained on the basis of a reference variation is smaller than the preset fine variation. SOLUTION: In this fuel injection device for an internal combustion engine using a common rail 13, variationΔτin relation to a target value of main injection changes in response to interval time Ti between the pilot injection and the main injection. As the interval time, corrected interval time corrected in response to the rail pressure is used, and when determination that variation of the main injection obtained by using the corrected interval time becomes smaller than the preset fine variation is done, the work for computing variation of the main injection is stopped to reduce variation of the main injection to zero.
