The proposed method of excitation of an electric machine consists in applying voltage pulses to the excitation winding of the machine with frequency that ensures the continuity of the excitation current. To apply the voltage pulses, an excitation winding is used that contains a capacitor and switches. At first, the capacitor is connected to the mains vie the corresponding switch. After charging, the capacitor is disconnected from the mains and connected to the excitation winding. After discharging, the capacitor is disconnected from the excitation winding, and the winding terminals are connected to each other. The voltage pulse period is inversely proportional to the specified value of the excitation current.
