Use of a culture medium (CM) to distinguish between at least three groups of microorganisms in a biological sample. Use of a culture medium (CM) to distinguish between at least three groups of microorganisms in a biological sample, i.e. a first group (G1), belonging to a first taxon, with at least one resistance mechanism to a treatment; a second group (G2), belonging to a different taxon, with at least one resistance mechanism to the same treatment as M1; and a third group (G3) that is not resistant to the treatment. The CM contains at least one each of: (i) a first substrate (S1) allowing detection of an enzymatic or metabolic activity of M1; (ii) marker (L), to differentiate between M1 and M2 that is a substrate for an enzymatic or metabolic activity of M2; and (iii) an antimicrobial (I) effective against M3. Independent claims are also included for: (1) CM (I) that contains S1 for detecting beta -glucosidase activity; second substrate (S2) to detect metabolism of methyl alpha -glucoside, in presence of a colored indicator, and vancomycin; (2) CM (II) in which S1 detects hexosaminidase activity, S2 detects beta -glucosidase activity and the antifungal amphotericin B; (3) CM (III) containing S1 as in (I), an S2 to detect phosphatase activity and amphotericin B; (4) CM (IV) containing S1 as in (I), S2 to detect beta -glucosidase activity and the antifungal fluconazole; (5) CM (V) as in (II) but where S2 detects phosphatase; (6) CM (VI) that contains S1 to detect beta -glucuronidase or beta -galactosidase, S2 to detect beta -glucosidase activity, tryptophanase or deaminase and the antibiotic ceftazidine; (7) CM (VII) with S1 and S2 as in (VI), plus the antibiotics cefpodoxime and cloxacillin; (8) CM (VIII) containing S1 and S2 as in (VI) and a combination of ceftriaxone and clavulanic acid; (9) CM (IX) containing S1 and S2 as in (VI) plus cefpodoxime and aztreonam; and (10) CM (X) containing S1 to detect metabolism of alpha -glucoside, S2 to detect some other activity and vancomycin.
|
