PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seal which enables a reduction in size of a bearing part and consequent improvement of an outward appearance, has a simple structure and enables cutdown of the number of components and moreover which is easy to manufacture and can be provided inexpensively. SOLUTION: The seal consists of a holder tube 1 provided with the bearing part 11, a seal 3 fitted in the tube end opening of the holder tube 1 and a cap 2 which has a connecting arm part 21 hinge-connected to the bearing part 11 so that the cap covers the tube end opening of the holder tube 1. The cap 2 is held normally closed by the engagement of an engaging part 23 provided at the edge part of the cap with a part 13 to be engaged which is provided at the tube end of the holder tube 1, and when the cap 2 is opened, a seal face is exposed so as to enable sealing. The bearing part 11 of the holder tube 1 is provided with a fixed-side retaining part 12, while the connecting arm part 21 of the cap 2 is provided with a movable-side retaining part 22 which is engaged with the fixed-side retaining part 12 when the cap 2 is fully opened. By the engagement of the movable-side retaining part 22 with the fixed-side retaining part 12, the cap 2 is retained automatically at a position where it does not project from the seal face on the occasion of the use of the seal.
