<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an authentication method and an authentication device allowing a possessor of a genuine authentication medium to quickly notice falsification when the authentication medium is falsified and to use the genuine authentication medium before use of the falsified medium for invalidating the falsified one. <P>SOLUTION: The authentication medium 1 such as an ID card is provided with a fixed ID part 1a storing a fixed ID for identification of the possessor of the medium and an internal ID part 1b storing readable/writable objective information. A reader/writer reading/writing information stored in the internal ID part 1b is arranged in a terminal device 11, to which the authentication medium 1 is applied, and after the authentication medium 1 is used and predetermined processing is finished, the objective information in the internal ID 1b is rewritten so that authentication information corresponding to the objective information is stored in a host computer 12. In use of the authentication medium 1, the objective information in the internal ID part 1b is compared with the authentication information of the host computer 12.
