PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a fitting mechanism for a scanning unit in an optical housing in an optical scanner for a device for the read and/or write of an optical recording medium. SOLUTION: Sliding surfaces 9 formed integrally with an optical housing 1 holds a support member 7 having a sliding surface 10. The support member is adjusted with a virtual axis A as a center and has a scanning head 4. An adjustment screws 8 is abutted on the edge of an opening 16 formed at the housing 1, and a screw-cut shaft 17 of the adjustment screw is extended through an opening in the direction of the support member 7 with a clearance, so that the adjustment screw can move in a horizontal direction in the opening 16. A spring means 14 acts on the support member 7 on the side of the sliding surface 9 separated from the adjustment screw 8, and presses the support member to the sliding surface 9. Since the adjustment screw 8 acts on the support member 7 to promote the adjusting movement of the support member 7, an angle of the adjustment screw to the support member 7 is varied in the case of screw movement.
