PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for inexpensively acquiring a software code in a device from a host computer without time dependency. SOLUTION: With respect to downloading to the device of a code portion, at least two competing available code portions are proposed simultaneously to the device from the host computer. The system includes delaying means for sending successive negative acknowledgements to the host computer from the device, for each competing available portion and selecting means for selecting a code portion to be received among the competing available code portions, and the delaying means stops sending the negative acknowledgements for the code portion selected by the selecting means, so that receiving means receive only the selected portion except available code portions competing with the selected code portion.
