CARBON MATERIAL FOR HEARTH ROLL, HEARTH ROLL, AND METHOD FOR USING HEARTH ROLL

A carbon material for a hearth roll having been subjected to casting, burning and graphitization, wherein the maximum diameter of a pore being present therein is 0.2 mm or less, wherein it has a bulk specific gravity of 1.55 to 2.00 g/cm<SUP>3</SUP>, a graphitization degree of 0.5 or higher and a hardness of not less than 40 and less than 70 in terms of Hs, and wherein it contains, as incidental impurities, 0.010 mass % or less of Fe and 0.010 mass % or less of an alkali metal element. The above carbon material for a hearth roll can provide a hearth roll which is markedly improved in the resistance to the formation of a pickup.
