<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflection type display element having a bright and wide viewing field angle characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: The reflection type display element is equipped with a pair of substrates 15a, 15b arranged to face each other, and a display medium 18 held between the substrates, and reflects the light made incident from the one substrate 15a of the pair of the substrates 15a, 15b by the reflective layer 17a provided on the other substrate 15b of the pair of the substrates 15a, 15b, then emits the light from the one substrate 15a.
