The set of invention relates to medicine, namely to methods for a vertebral column extension which enable to treat and prevent vertebral column-related diseases and to embodiments of a device for carrying out said methods. The main variant of the method consists in vertically suspending a patient by the head thereof, wherein said suspension is carried out by supporting the patient upper jaw bone by the first support element of the device and by supporting the patient occipital bone in the occiput area thereof by the second support element of said device, wherein both support elements are combined in the form of a rigid carcass connected to a rod. In the second variant, the method consists in, mounting said means on the patient head, in positioning said patient on a support in such a way that the lower limbs thereof are fixed thereto, in bringing said support into an inclined or horizontal position and in extending the vertebral column by exposing the rod to the action produced by above means and/or an adjustable lower limb holder. In order to carry out said variant, the device is provided with a patient positioning support which is fixed to one of two frames. The inventive method and device variants make it possible to efficiently carry out the patient vertebral column extension.
