<p>A rotational actuator consists of a rotatable member extending along a rotational axis, a support member which is substantially coaxial with and supports the rotatable member, and a particle source. The rotatable member has a different chirality to the support member. The particle source is arranged to provide at least one particle to one of the rotatable member and the support member. The particle impinges upon the other of the rotatable member and the support member. The particle experiences a change in angular momentum due to the different chiralities of the support member and rotatable member, so as to cause rotation of the rotatable member due to the principle of conservation of momentum. Devices utilising similar rotational activators are also described.</p> |
