A method of recording information for an information recording/reproducing device which is provided with a disklike recording medium, a means for rotating the recording medium at a constant angular velocity, a means for recording a coded information in a nearly fixed bit-length regarding the position in a radial direction of the recording medium, a means for producing a modulated signal by modulating the coded information to be recorded, and a recording means for forming locally a recording region having physically different properties from those of other regions on the recording medium, and in which the coded information is recorded in correspondence with an edge of the recording region by controlling the recording means with the modulated signal, said information recording/reproducing method characterized in that parts of the recording and reproducing characteristics differ with the position of the recorded information in the recording medium by using a recording/reproducing system in which the bit rate of the coded information to be recorded differs with the position.
