PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information processing apparatus, a method and a program capable of backing up efficiently a file between information processors connected to a network. SOLUTION: The P2P network is constituted of PCs 12A-12D, each of the PCs shares the file with other PCs. A copying mode for storing a substantial data of the file in the each PC to be shared, and a download mode for storing only an index data of expressing a feature of the file in the each PC, and for requesting and acquiring the substantial data of the file at the point when necessary are provided as a file sharing mode. When the PC 12A sets the PC 12B set with the download mode as the sharing mode, as a backup peer, the PC 12B requests to the PC 12A and acquires from the PC 12A the substantial data of the file to be shared, irrespective of setting the download mode, and stores it.
