PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera in which improper switching of photography mode can be prevented surely when light enters temporarily during photography in monochrome mode at night, and quick switching can be carried out in a scene where switching of photography mode is required. SOLUTION: The inventive camera, comprising a mode switching means for inserting a specific wavelength removing means if the luminance of an object is sufficient otherwise withdrawing it at the time of photography; a luminance calculation means for dividing the photography screen into a plurality of blocks and calculating the luminance of each block; and a region division means for dividing into a plurality of regions depending on the luminance of each block thus calculated, is further provided with a variation calculation means for recording the state of region divided by the region dividing means predetermined time before and calculating variation in region dividing state.
