APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR TRANSFERRING MPLS MULTICAST PACKET VIA ETHERNET

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a packet transfer apparatus and method for transferring MPLS multicast packets over an Ethernet by using the MPLS (Multi Protocol Label Switching) label.

SOLUTION: The packet transfer apparatus includes: a database 30 for storing address information for transferring MPLS multicast packets; a discrimination section 20 for discriminating whether or not a received packet is the MPLS multicast packet when receiving the packet from the other node, and discriminating whether or not the address of the packet is present in the database 30 when the received packet is the MPLS multicast packet; a packet processing section 40 for determining a node which is to be transmitted to the MPLS multicast packet whose address is present in the database 30 and for assigning an MPLS label in accordance with the address of the determined node; and a mapping section 50 for mapping the assigned MPLS label to an Ethernet target place MAC (Medium Access Control) address of the packet.
