PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To securely generate a standing wave and a progressive wave having large sound pressure in a loop pipe. SOLUTION: In this thermoacoustic device 1 provided with the loop pipe 2 in which working fluid is sealed, a first stack 3a provided in the loop pipe 2, sandwiched by a first high temperature side heat exchanger 4 and a first low temperature side heat exchanger 5, and having a plurality of conducting passages 30 in the direction of transfer of heat, and a second stack 3b sandwiched by a second high temperature side heat exchanger 6 and a second low temperature side heat exchanger 7 in the loop pipe 2 and having a plurality of conducting passages 30 in the direction of transfer of heat to generate a standing wave and a progressive wave by self-excitation by heating the first high temperature side heat exchanger 4 and cool the second low temperature side heat exchanger 7 by the standing wave and the progressive wave, the first stack 3a sandwiched by the first high temperature side heat exchanger 4 and the first low temperature side heat exchanger 5 is provided in a plurality of sections in the loop pipe 2 and in the vicinity of a position where particle speed fluctuation of sound wave and sound pressure fluctuation have the same phase.
