PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shut height adjusting method by which shut height adjustment can be securely performed within one cycle while high productivity is maintained and thickness accuracy of forged products can be kept constant. SOLUTION: When the continuous stamping operation of a forging press 1 is performed, a slide 40 is stopped at a upper dead point for a longer time in a cycle in which shut height adjustment is made than that in a cycle in which only stamping operation is performed, and the rotation of an eccentric shaft 20 is stopped until the shut height adjustment is completed. As the shut height adjustment can be completed within one cycle even if the continuous stamping operation is performed at high speed, the variation in the accuracy of products can be suppressed. Also, as the time for adjusting shut height becomes longer, the shut height can be adjusted securely in a high degree of accuracy. After the shut height adjustment is completed, the stamping operation is performed at high speed, namely time per cycle is short, so that productivity is maintained in high.
