<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting diode wherein, when a light emitting diode chip is combined with a fluorescent gel of a different color, the light ray of the different color is emitted. <P>SOLUTION: In the light emitting diode having a quasi omnidirectional reflector, the fluorescent gel is applied to the periphery of the light emitting diode chip, and the quasi omnidirectional reflector is installed above the fluorescent gel. The quasi omnidirectional reflector is manufactured by an optical coating method, and a wide angle cutoff filter having a total reflection characteristic. The characteristic of the optical coating allows a light ray emitted from the light emitting diode chip and incident at a smaller angle than the total reflection angle to be reflected. Further, a light ray having the wavelength of the light emitting diode is confined within the fluorescent gel to excite a phosphor to the utmost.
