A mobile telephone terminal 1 is linked to a telecommunications network 3 including a server 30 for providing content to that terminal. The terminal includes a graphical user interface which allows the selection of desired web pages by the user. The web pages include links for downloading content from the server 30. The mobile terminal is adapted to automatically update the content periodically so that the content associated with selected links, and selected pages, are maintained up-to-date. The automatic updating occurs as a background cache maintenance process a-j. The user of the mobile terminal is not aware of this process happening.
