A high-purity alicyclic diepoxy compound of the general formula (II) which is obtained by epoxidizing an alicyclic diolefin compound of the general formula (I) having an isomer content as determined by GC of 15% or lower. (I) (II) <In the formulae, X is a divalent group selected from the group consisting of, O, S, -SO-, -SO<SUB>2</SUB>-, -CH<SUB>2</SUB>-, -C(CH<SUB>3</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB>-, etc.; and R<SUP>1</SUP> to R<SUP>18</SUP> may be the same or different and each represents hydrogen, halogeno, a hydrocarbon group optionally containing oxygen or halogeno, or optionally substituted alkoxy.> Also provided is a process for producing a high-purity alicyclic diepoxy compound, which comprises producing the alicyclic diolefin compound through distillation, expoxidizing the compound with an aliphatic peroxycarboxylic acid containing substantially no water, subsequently removing the solvent from the reaction mixture, and then purifying the epoxidized compound by distillation.
