PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform thermally stable high-density perpendicular magnetic recording with good SNR characteristics by enhancing the C-axis orientation of a vertical magnetic recording layer. SOLUTION: On a foundation layer having a foundation film containing an amorphous alloy containing at least Ni, the magnetic recording layer containing at least one kind of elements among Fe and Co, containing at least one kind of elements among Pt and Pd, having L1<SB>0</SB>structure, and containing a magnetic crystal grains with mainly (001) orientation, is formed.
