<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microwave imaging system requiring no movable component, and usable for security inspection of the human being and other articles. <P>SOLUTION: This microwave imaging system 10 images a target 420 using microwave radiation provided by a microwave source 60a. The system includes an array of antenna elements 200 programmable with a corresponding transmission coefficient to direct the microwave radiation from the microwave source to a position on the target. The each antenna element is further programmable with a corresponding additional transmission coefficient to receive reflected microwave radiation reflected from the position on the target and to direct the reflected microwave radiation to a microwave receiver 60b. A processor is operable to measure an intensity of the reflected microwave radiation, and finds a value of a pixel within an image of the target.
