PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for effectively producing a polyimide wet gel. SOLUTION: The method for producing a polyimide wet gel from anhydrous tetracarboxylic acid and a diamine compound comprises (1) (a) a first step for preparing a varnish containing a polyamic acid from a mixed solution containing anhydrous tetracarboxylic acid, a diamine compound A, a diamine compound B and a solvent, and (b) a second step for preparing a polyimide wet gel from the varnish by imidizing the polyamic acid, wherein (2) the solvent is (a) soluble in the diamine compounds A and B, (b) soluble in a copolymer of the anhydrous tetracarboxylic acid and diamine compound A, and (c) insoluble in a copolymer of the anhydrous tetracarboxylic acid and diamine compound B.
