PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lower tie plate with a trapping means built thereinto for trapping foreign matter in a coolant without using welding for enhancing the mountability of a channel box, and to provide a fuel assembly equipped therewith. SOLUTION: This lower tie plate 6 of this fuel assembly 1 for a nuclear reactor is equipped with: a tie plate body 10 comprising an opening part 18 in its upper end; a filter 11 provided fittedly into the opening part 18 for catching foreign matter in the coolant; a support grid 15 provided on an upper part of the filter 11 fittedly into the opening part 18 for supporting lower ends of fuel rods 2; and connection fuel rods 2' comprising threaded lower end plugs 28 threadedly fittable into screw holes 21a provided in the tie plate body 10 for fixing a filter 11 by holding it between the support grid 15 and the tie plate body 10 with the end plugs 28 screwed to the screw holes 21a.
