<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a block prediction method of a direct mode having further improved coding efficiency, and to provide a block prediction method of a direct mode capable of improving accuracy of the predicted block. <P>SOLUTION: The block prediction method of a B picture to be presently coded or decoded consists of a first step of obtaining forward and backward motion vectors of direct mode for B picture, a second step of obtaining motion-compensated blocks (B<SB>f</SB>, B<SB>b</SB>) by utilizing the forward and backward motion vectors obtained in the first step, and a third step of predicting a block of the B picture to be presently coded or decoded by applying prediction interpolation to the motion-compensated blocks obtained in the second step. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
