The mattress is assembled of a flat upper (1) and lower layer (3) accommodating a segmented layer (2) between them. The upper (1) and the lower layer (3) can be provided with hollow spaces (4) yielding under the weight of the user. The segments (E) of the central layer (2) can be round, rectangular or oval and connected with bridges (5, 6) either positioned halfway down or in the lower area. The segments (E) can be of various degrees of density, permanently joined to one of the outer layers (1,3) or to be arranged as required.
