PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To carry out the objective and quantitative diagnosis of the initial stage of gingivitis with a simple method. SOLUTION: The dental examination apparatus is provided with a light source part for irradiating a site to be examined with light of a specified wavelength, a photodetecting part which receives the light emitted from the site to be examined by irradiation with the light from the light source part to store the information of the light and a processing part for processing the information stored at the photodetecting part. The light source part makes the light irradiate the site to be examined within the part to be examined and the reference site on the perimeter of the site to be examined, the photodetecting part receives the light emitted from the site to be examined and the reference site to store the information of the light and the processing part diagnoses the site to be examined based on the information of the light emitted from the site to be examined and the reference site.
