<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a symbol structure that is easy to read even when used in such a manner that coded information should be obtained by reading a two-dimensional code semi-automatically, or even under conditions in which the symbol structure is either away from a reader or moves relative to the reader. <P>SOLUTION: The two-dimensional code has function patterns 1-3 disposed within the two-dimensional code and having a particular pattern to enable the position and direction of the two-dimensional code to be detected, and a coded area 5 where a plurality of cells displaying coded desired information are aligned two-dimensionally. One of predetermined 2<SP>n</SP>basic colors (e.g., white and RGB), wherein n is a integer of 2 or more, is allocated to each of the cells in order to display the desired information in a coded fashion. The basic colors are arranged on the function patterns.
