A brush mounting plate for a universal motor includes U-shaped brush guiding plates ( 4 ) for radially guiding carbon brushes ( 3 ) and having radially offset guiding plate feet ( 5 ) which extend through associated mounting holes ( 6 ) formed in the brush mounting plate ( 1 ), with at least two guiding plate feet ( 5 ) being spaced at different distances from respective adjacent end surfaces ( 11 a , 11 b) of an associated brush guiding plate ( 4 ).
