An oligomer mixture (I) of n-propylethoxysiloxanes (II) comprises 80-100 wt.% n-propylethoxysiloxanes having a degree of oligomerization of 2-6. Independent claims are also included for: (1) a process for production of the mixture (I) by hydrolysis and condensation of n-propyltriethoxysilane or n-propyltrichlorosilane in an ethanolic solution in the presence of a hydrolysis and/or condensation catalyst with the addition of 0.65-0.85 moles of water per mole of Si at 40-120 degrees C with removal of alcohol and hydrogen chloride from the reaction system; (2) a composition or agent containing the oligomer mixture (I); (3) a process for the treatment of substrates by application of the composition or agent with an optional thermal and/or photochemical post-treatment; and (4) the resulting surface treated substrates and articles.
