<p>A white light emitting diode device comprised of a light emitting diode element capable of emitting purple light of 400 to 419 nm wavelength and a ceramic composite, wherein the ceramic composite is an aggregate wherein cerium-activated Y3Al5O12 (Y3Al5O12:Ce) crystals and alpha-aluminum oxide (Al2O3) crystals exist in a fashion continuously and three-dimensionally arranged and tangled with each other, the ceramic composite exhibiting not only a fluorescence characteristic of carrying out a wavelength conversion of part of the purple light to yellow light but also a function of transmitting part of the purple light, which white light emitting diode device is capable of mixing the purple light having passed through the ceramic composite with the yellow light resulting from the wavelength conversion performed by the ceramic composite to thereby attain pseudo white light emission.</p> |
