The method involves sequentially selecting rows of a matrix of a plasma matrix display, and non-simultaneously deselecting matrix columns which are previously selected during selection of a previous row, for a selected row. A deselection signal is delivered to the previously selected columns in response to deselection control signal, while deselecting the previously selected columns. An independent claim is also included for a plasma matrix display comprising a device for controlling cells.
