PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal composition useful for producing a liquid crystal element having high color displaying performance and provide a liquid crystal element having high visibility and color displaying performance. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal composition contains at least one kind of charged particle and at least one kind of dichroic dye. The dichroic dye is a dye having a substituent expressed by general formula (1): -(Het)<SB>j</SB>-[(B<SP>1</SP>)<SB>p</SB>-(Q<SP>1</SP>)<SB>q</SB>-(B<SP>2</SP>)<SB>r</SB>]<SB>n</SB>-C<SP>1</SP>(Het is oxygen atom or sulfur atom; B<SP>1</SP>and B<SP>2</SP>are each a bivalent arylene group, heteroarylene group or a bivalent cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon group; Q<SP>1</SP>is a bivalent linking group; C<SP>1</SP>is an alkyl, a cycloalkyl, an alkoxy, an alkoxycarbonyl, an acyl or an acyloxy; j is 0 or 1; p, q and r are each 0-5; n is 1-3; and the total number of the B<SP>1</SP>and B<SP>2</SP>groups is 3-10).
