<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus wherein forcible development is performed in order to prevent a phenomenon that long-time stay of a developer in a developing device degrades its adhesive strength to an image to bring about image degradation when consecutively forming toner images having a low image density. <P>SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus, a developing device for developing electrostatic latent images formed and carried on a plurality of photoreceptors, by at least charging means and exposure means and a primary transfer means are provided, and developer images on respective photoreceptors are transferred onto an intermediate transfer member one over another by respective primary transfer means, and the transferred developer images are collectively transferred to a transfer material. The developer from the developing device is forcibly consumed in an area other than a normal output image area, and outputs of the primary transfer means for transferring the developer from respective photoreceptors to the intermediate transfer member are reduced to halves or less of the outputs for normal image formation correspondingly to this developing operation. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
