PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a deflection scanner in an image forming apparatus, the deflection scanner in which the shaft slant error of a rotating polygon mirror is compensated by a simple structure and means. SOLUTION: The rotating polygon mirror is composed as a rotating polygon mirror unit obtained by fixing to an attaching member a driving motor in which the rotating polygon mirror is attached to the shaft of the driving motor, the rotating polygon mirror unit has a means indicating the shaft slant direction of the motor shaft, and is composed in such a way that when modulated light made to be incident on one reflection face of the rotating polygon mirror is reflected in the direction parallel to the optical axis of the optical system, the rotating polygon mirror unit can be fixed, at an optional or the prescribed angle around the motor shaft, to the main body of the image forming apparatus with the direction indicated by the indicating means of the shaft slant direction of the motor shaft set in parallel or substantially parallel to an reflection face.
