Preparation of grafting copolymers (I) exhibiting repeating units of vinyl alcohol and polyether group, comprises reacting grafting copolymers (1) exhibiting repeating units of esters of vinyl alcohols and polyether group, with water and/or at least a 1-6C alkanol in the presence of a catalyst, where the reaction takes place in an extruder.
