发明名称 Guards for air intakes of jet engines
摘要 1,119,701. Gas turbine plant; jet propulsion plant. BRISTOL SIDDELEY ENGINES Ltd. Aug. 12, 1965 [Aug. 13, 1964], No.33072/64. Headings FIG and F1J. Damage to an aircraft jet-propulsion engine of gas turbine or ram-jet type caused by birds or other foreign objects entering an air intake 14 is prevented by knives 20, 22 which cut the objects into small pieces which can be ingested harmlessly. Each knife is of triangular form with an oblong root 24 and a front cutting edge 25 which is included to the direction of the adjacent air flow to improve its cutting action. Adjacent knives in each set are welded together along the abutting longer edges of the roots 24 to form an assembly which is then welded at the shorter edges of the roots to a surrounding flanged inner frame 26 to form a unit which is bolted to a flanged outer frame 27 surrounding an aperture in a wall 21 or 23 of the air intake. Although each set of blades extends only partially across the air intake, a bird missing the blades 20 and passing between them and the wall 23 almost certainly strikes the blades 22. The upstream set of blades may be mounted on the outside of the fuselage, in front of the air intake. In the case of an annular air intake, annular sets of blades may be used, one projecting inwards from the outer wall of the intake and the other projecting outwards from a centre body; one of these annular sets may instead be just in front of the intake. The blades of one set may be staggered with respect to the blades of the other set, looking downstream. Three sets may be provided. Where the duct has compound curvature, the blades may be inclined to the radical direction or even be twisted, so as to be parallel to the local air flow.
