PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit the phenomenon that the discharge of a recording fluid fails due to the absorption of moisture from a nozzle of a head by the recording fluid, when the recording fluid deposits and remains inside a suction cap in performing a maintenance/recovery action, e.g. cleaning. SOLUTION: A cumulative decapping time (tdc) which represents the lapse of time during which a recording head 34 under a specified state is not capped with a cap 82a, is read, then it is determined whether or not the cumulative decapping time (tdc) is more than the preset time threshold value Tdc (tdc≥Tdc), and in the case of tdc≥Tdc, a post-discharge capping time (tc) which represents the lapse of time of a capping state by the cap 82a from a discharging action right before, is read. Further, it is determined whether or not the post-discharge capping time (tc) is more than the preset time threshold value Tc(tc≥Tc), and in the case of tc≥Tc, the recovery action is performed by a maintenance/recovery mechanism 82.
