METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR TRACKING MOBILE DEVICES USING RADIO FREQUENCY IDENTIFICATION (RFID) TAGS

An approach is provided for tracking a mobile device over a wireless network. Multiple Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags are affixed correspondingly to stationary (or fixed) points to form a grid for conveying location information. The mobile device includes an RFID reader configured to obtain an identifier of one of the RFID tags, wherein the one RFID tag represents a particular location of the mobile device within the grid.
