The invention relates to a system for culture and storage of benthic organisms in an aquatic environment comprising at least two containers ( 35 ) for storing organisms, releasably interconnected and forming a stack ( 20 a, 20 b) in the height direction, at least two lines ( 22 a, 22 b) attached to the stack and connected to at least the upper portion of the stack, and a suspension device connected to the lines. The system may also comprise a working platform (32) and raising/lowering device(s) ( 31 a, 31 b) for raising and lowering stacks. The invention also relates to a method for handling containers for storage of benthic organisms in an aquatic environment.
