A substance carrying or having fixed thereto a bis(quaternary ammonium salt) compound of the formula: (1) [wherein each of R1 and R2 is a C<SUB>6</SUB>-C<SUB>18</SUB> alkyl; each of R3 and R4 is a hydroxymethyl or an alkyloxycarbonyl; each of n1 and n2 is an integer of 1 to 3; and each of X1<SUP>-</SUP> and X2<SUP>-</SUP> is an anion residue] and a bis(quaternary ammonium salt) compound of the formula: (2) [wherein each of R1 and R2 is a C<SUB>6</SUB>-C<SUB>18</SUB> alkyl; each of R5 and R6 is an alkyloxycarbonyl, etc. with the proviso that at least one thereof is a hydroxymethyl; each of n1 and n2 is an integer of 1 to 3; and each of X1<SUP>-</SUP> and X2<SUP>-</SUP> is an anion residue]. Further, there is provided a bactericidal composition comprising at least one substance selected from the group consisting of substances carrying or having fixed thereto a bis(quaternary ammonium salt) compound of the formula (1) and a bis(quaternary ammonium salt) compound of the formula (2).
