PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lightened rotary cutting tool for preventing abrasion and damage due to chips on a chip contact face of a cutting tool contacting the chips. SOLUTION: This lightened rotary cutting tool 1 includes a tool body made of a light material with a cutting insert mounting seat 3, and a chip pocket 5 contacting the cutting insert mounting seat and positioned at an upper seat in a cutting rotary direction of the tool body formed on an outer periphery of the tool body 2. A protection tool mounting part 7 for mounting an abrasion and damage protection tool 6 is formed on a chip contact outer periphery of the tool body contacting discharged chips. A protection tool fitting part and a mounting part fitting part are meshed with each other, and the abrasion and damage protection tool is mounted on the protection tool mounting part, so as to prevent the abrasion and damage protection tool from being detached from the tool body by a centrifugal force at the time of rotating the lightened rotary cutting tool.
