A novel use of a compound represented by the general formula (1) or a salt thereof. The compound represented by the general formula (1) or salt thereof produces an excellent alleviating effect in a corneal disorder healing effect test using a dry eye model. It is useful as a therapeutic agent for dry eye or diseases accompanying dry eye. Symbol A is lower alkylene or lower alkenylene; ring X is a nonaromatic ring or nitrogenous aromatic heterocycle; R<SUP>1</SUP> is hydrogen or lower alkyl and R<SUP>2</SUP> is hydroxy, provided that R<SUP>1</SUP> may be fused to R<SUP>2</SUP> to form a lactone ring; R<SUP>3</SUP> is hydrogen or lower alkyl; R<SUP>4</SUP> is optionally substituted lower alkyl, cycloalkyl, optionally substituted aryl, hydroxy or an ester thereof, lower alkoxy, carboxy or an amide thereof, or lower alkylamino or an amide thereof; and m is an integer of 0-4, provided that when m is 2 or larger, then the R<SUP>4</SUP>'s may be the same or different.
