PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new dye having absorption characteristics with excellent color reproducibility as a magenta dye and sufficient fastness and to provide a method for producing the dye.

SOLUTION: The azo dye is represented by general formula (2) (wherein, Z1denotes an electron attractive group such as a CN group; Z2denotes an H, an aliphatic group or the like; R1, R2, b, c and d denote each an H, a halogen, an aliphatic group or the like; R3and R4denote each an H, an aliphatic group or the like; a and e denote each an alkyl group or the like; and Q denotes a hydrogen atom, an aliphatic group or the like).
