PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeding device for an image forming device, capable of properly feeding different kinds of paper. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a paper feed tray, provided with a loading plate 2 for loading paper P to be vertically movable, which can be installed on a tray housing part 52, a frame member 3 supported above the tray housing part 52 to be capable of swinging around a swinging axial center A in the lateral direction, a pickup roller 4 supported by the frame member 3 so as to abut on an upper surface of paper P in the paper feed tray to feed the paper P, a lifting means 5 to lift the loading plate 2, and a control means to control actuation of the lifting means 5. The frame member 3 is energized downward by an elastic member 9, and it is provided with a frame member position detecting means 6 to detect a vertical position of the frame member 3, and a paper kind setting means to set the kind of paper P contained in the paper feed tray. The control means is composed to control lifting actuation of the lifting means 5 based on detection information by the frame member position detecting means 6 and set information by the paper kind setting means.
