A process for the treatment of a liquid reactive medium with a gas comprising dispersing the gas in a liquid in which the gas is sparingly soluble to form a dispersion thereof, said liquid being maintained at a pressure (P1) greater than the pressure (P2) of the liquid reactive medium and the amount of said gas dispersed therein being in excess of its saturation point in the liquid; and introducing the dispersion into the liquid reactive medium having a demand f or the gas which is in excess of the amount of gas capable of being dissolved therein at the prevailing conditions in the treatment zone.
