PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To combine an acrylamide-based amphoteric copolymer with an anionic copolymer to exhibit a high paper strength and a drainage effect. SOLUTION: This wet method for making the paper by adding a water-soluble acrylamide-based copolymer to a pulp slurry is characterized in that an amphoteric copolymer (A) and an anionic copolymer (B) have weight-average mol. wts. of 300,000 to 10,000,000, respectively, and the diluted solutions of the copolymers (A) and (B) are preliminarily mixed and then added to the pulp slurry. Since the amphoteric and anionic copolymers having specific high mol. wts, or larger, respectively, are preliminarily mixed and then added, a high paper strength and a drainage effect are obtained. When the anionic copolymer is adjusted to pH 6 or more on mixing, the paper strength and the like are further improved. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
