PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the wear of side gates from being caused by the contact of solidified shells. SOLUTION: When molten steel 106 is fed into a moving die composed of recessed rolls 101, 102, and side gates 103, 104, the molten steel 106 is cooled at the roll surfaces (surfaces other than step parts), so as to turn to solidified shells 111, 112, and both the solidified shells 111, 112 are pressure-contacted, and the same is pulled out as a cast slab 113. Since heat insulating materials (ceramic coatings) are applied to the circumferential faces of the step parts 101a, 101b, 102a, 102b as both the edge parts of the rolls, heat release does not progress in this parts, and solidified shells are not formed. In this way, a gap is formed between both the ends of the solidified shells 111, 112 and the side gates 103, 104, and the solidified shells 111, 112 are prevented from being in contact with the side gates 103, 104, thus the wear of the side gates 103, 104 is prevented.
