摘要 The effective beam area(15) in the joining plane between the two components has a smaller diameter(16) than the total seam breadth(14) to be irradiated along a welding path. In order to cover the full breadth of seam to be irradiated the beam area makes an alternating movement according to localized co-ordinates (xlocal, ylocal) as it follows a path along the seam(17). The origin of the local co-ordinate system moves relative to a second co-ordinate system (xglobal, yglobal) covering the overall path of seam to be welded. The beam area(15) makes a circulating movement, in particular a circle or ellipse within the moving local co-ordinate system (xlocal, ylocal). Movement of the beam area comprises a series of straight sections and can be varied within the local co-ordinates. The moving local co-ordinate system with a circulating beam may be moved several times along the seam to be welded. Movement of the beam is preferably by two motor-driven deflecting mirrors.
