<p>The device has multiple light sources (12) emitting linear light to an smoker`s article, where each light source is provided with a sensor for receiving light scattered from an article surface. An evaluating unit (21) is provided for evaluating measurement signals of the sensors. The light sources are arranged such that an article is covered essentially and completely in its circumference in a star-shaped manner.
